The Schwimmwagen Type 166 was a German military amphibious vehicle developed during World War II to provide highly mobile transport capabilities on both land and water. Based on the chassis of the Volkswagen Kübelwagen, it featured a lightweight body, four-wheel drive, and a fold-up propeller, making it one of the most capable amphibious vehicles of its time.

Designed for use in a wide variety of environments, the Schwimmwagen combined excellent off-road performance with the ability to cross rivers, lakes, and other bodies of water without external assistance. Its compact dimensions and mechanical simplicity contributed to its exceptional reliability in military service.

More than 14,000 vehicles were produced between 1942 and 1944, seeing action on all major fronts of the war. Throughout its production and service life, the Schwimmwagen was fitted with various historically documented wheel and tire combinations from different manufacturers, reflecting both production changes and logistical requirements.

Thanks to its distinctive appearance and innovative design, the Schwimmwagen Type 166 remains one of the most iconic military vehicles of World War II and continues to be a popular subject among military vehicle enthusiasts and scale modelers.
