The M577A1 is the command post and command vehicle variant of the American M113A1. It is based on the same chassis but features a significantly raised, box-like superstructure that provides more interior space for staff and command functions. Introduced in the mid-1960s, the M577A1 was used by U.S. forces and numerous allied armies.

The distinctive high superstructure houses a large workspace for command personnel, radio and communications equipment, and map and planning operations. A separate generator could be used to power the extensive electrical equipment. When stationary, an inflatable or tent-like extension system could also be attached to the rear, increasing the available workspace.
