The A4 (Aggregat 4) - later designated as the V2 (Vergeltungswaffe *, or "Retaliation Weapon 2") - was a liquid-fueled ballistic missile developed in Nazi Germany. It was deployed during the Second World War and is considered the first long-range ballistic missile to be mass-produced and used for military purposes.

It served as a technical precursor to modern ballistic missiles and spaceflight technology. At the same time, it functioned as a terror weapon directed against cities.

Its first military use took place on September 8, 1944. Among the initial targets were Paris and London.

By March 27, 1945, approximately 3,200 A4 missiles had been launched for military purposes. The primary targets included London, Antwerp, and various other cities across Belgium, France, and Great Britain.

However, the missile was relatively inaccurate; while it could strike large urban areas, it was unable to reliably target specific military objectives.
