The Chieftain was the main battle tank of the British from the 60s until the 80s.
In its early days, it was the main battle tank with the best armour and the most powerful gun.
The Mk. 11 was the last version in which, for example, the large lateral aiming light was exchanged for a TOGS (Thermal Observation and Gunnery System), as the Challenger later got from the beginning.
Other planned developments (Mk.12, 13) were discontinued in favour of the Challenger.
