The V-1, officially designated Fieseler Fi 103, was an unmanned flying bomb developed by Germany during World War II. It is considered one of the first cruise missiles in history and was used from 1944 onwards, primarily against targets in Great Britain and later also on the European mainland. Powered by a characteristic pulsejet engine, the V-1 reached speeds of around 600 km/h and could fly several hundred kilometers to its target area.

Most V-1s were launched from ground-based launchers; later, aircraft launches were also used. The flying bomb was controlled by a simple autopilot that determined the course and flight path. Once the set distance was reached, the engine shut down, and the V-1 crashed into its target. Despite its relatively simple technology, its long range and approximately 850-kilogram warhead made it a significant threat.

The V-1 was part of the German so-called "retaliation weapons" and marked an important step in the development of modern guided and cruise missiles. Tens of thousands were manufactured and deployed, making it one of the most famous long-range weapons of World War II.
