The Polish cavalrymen (Uhlans) of 1939 were among the most modern mounted troops in Europe and were by no means an obsolete horse-mounted army. Although they utilized horses for mobility, they predominantly fought dismounted as highly mobile infantry. The horse served primarily as a means of transport - enabling rapid shifts between sectors of the front, reconnaissance operations, and surprise counter-attacks.

During the September Campaign, the Polish Uhlans demonstrated great mobility, discipline, and combat effectiveness. While they ultimately could not withstand German air superiority or the Wehrmacht's numerical and technical advantages, they significantly delayed the German advance in numerous locations and inflicted heavy losses on the attackers.

For modelers, the Uhlans of 1939 are of particular interest, as they lend themselves to a wide range of historically documented scenarios: mounted marching columns, dismounted infantry engagements, reconnaissance patrols, anti-tank positions equipped with the Wz.35 anti-tank rifle or the 37mm Bofors anti-tank gun, and combat operations alongside TK-3 or TKS tankettes. This diversity makes them one of the most distinctive - yet historically often misunderstood - types of troops from the early Second World War.
