PLAN Improved Type 052D Destroyer

The Type 052D (Improved Series) guided-missile destroyers represent a new generation of Type 052D destroyers built by China. With a displacement of approximately 8,000 tons at full load, they are based on the first-generation Type 052 from the 1990s. Following numerous improvements and modernizations, this series features new radar systems and a next-generation data system enabling systematic and networked operations. Furthermore, the ships are equipped with guns with enhanced stealth capabilities, and their appearance has been optimized to further improve stealth performance. This represents a further advancement in stealth capabilities, electronic information processing, and network-centric warfare. The Type 052D destroyers are equipped with a 130 mm naval gun, an 1130 mm CIWS, a 64-cell universal vertical launch system, a 24-cell HQ-10 surface-to-air missile launcher, four multi-purpose decoy launchers, and two torpedo tubes. The fourth generation of the Type 052D features a towed sonar release hatch at the stern and space for a new Z-20F anti-submarine helicopter in the aft hangar.
Upon commissioning in 2025, the newest Type 052D, along with the more modern Type 055 destroyer, will form the core of the Chinese Navy's current long-range combat capability, significantly enhancing its overall combat power and endurance in complex electromagnetic environments.
