The FV4101 Charioteer saw far more extensive service in the Middle East than with its original operator, Great Britain. Based on the Cromwell chassis, the tank was equipped with the powerful 84mm 20-pounder gun from the Centurion, delivering impressive firepower for its time. Numerous vehicles were sold to Jordan in the 1950s, where they became key main battle tanks for the army and saw action during the Arab-Israeli conflicts of the 1960s. The Charioteer was also used in Lebanon, remaining in service there until the 1970s. During the Lebanese Civil War, the vehicles were employed by various factions; some even ended up in the hands of Palestinian groups.

The combination of heavy armament and good mobility made the Charioteer particularly well-suited to the open terrain of the Middle East. However, its greatest weakness was the thin armor of its tall turret, leaving it vulnerable in direct combat. Consequently, it was primarily deployed as a mobile tank destroyer. Despite its technical compromises, the Charioteer proved to be a durable and versatile vehicle in the Middle East, playing a role in regional conflicts long after it had been retired from British service.
