In the late 1960s, the Mikoyan Design Bureau developed the world's first interceptor capable of Mach 3 – the MiG-25. Simultaneously, a state-of-the-art reconnaissance bomber variant, the MiG-25RB, was developed. These superb reconnaissance aircraft served in the Soviet (later Russian) Air Force and were delivered to Iraq and Syria. The Iraqi Air Force's MiG-25RB was used for bombing raids during the Iran-Iraq War from 1980 to 1988.
