The AH-6J Little Bird "Nightstalker" is a US Army light attack helicopter designed specifically to support special operations. Operated by the elite "Night Stalkers" unit, it is characterized by its compact design, high maneuverability, and ability to conduct precise missions at night and in challenging visibility conditions. Equipped with advanced navigation and sensor systems, the helicopter can perform both reconnaissance and combat roles. Depending on the mission, its armament includes machine guns, rocket launchers, grenade launchers, or anti-tank missiles, enabling it to provide effective support to ground troops. The AH-6J gained particular renown through deployments in Somalia, Afghanistan, and Iraq, where it provided aerial support to special forces during covert operations and combat engagements. Thanks to its versatility, reliability, and firepower, the Little Bird is considered one of the most successful light attack helicopters for special forces and served as the foundation for later, modernized variants.

In practice, the AH-6J and MH-6J usually operate as a team. While the MH-6J inserts special forces at the precise mission location or extracts them, the AH-6J provides aerial security for the operation and engages threats in the immediate vicinity. This synergy makes the Little Bird family one of the Night Stalkers' most successful aircraft systems and contributes significantly to the reputation they earned during operations in Panama, Somalia, Afghanistan, and Iraq.

The "Night Stalkers" are the personnel of the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne) (160th SOAR), a US Army special operations unit. Their primary mission is to transport and provide aerial support for special operations forces—such as Delta Force, US Navy SEALs, and US Army Rangers—using helicopters. The unit was established following the failed hostage rescue attempt during Operation Eagle Claw. Through this event, the US military recognized the need for a specially trained helicopter unit for covert and highly demanding missions. Since their inception, the Night Stalkers have participated in numerous operations in Somalia, Afghanistan, Iraq, and other crisis zones.

Their motto is "Night Stalkers Don't Quit." The unit's soldiers specialize in operating at night, in difficult terrain, and under extreme weather conditions. Their best-known aircraft include the MH-60 Black Hawk, the MH-47 Chinook, and the AH-6 and MH-6 Little Bird helicopters.

The AH-6J Little Bird "Nightstalker" earned its nickname because it was employed by this highly specialized unit and is closely associated with its operations.
