The Supacat ATMP, carrying a pallet of British L31A3 105mm shell ammunition boxes, represents one of the British Army's key logistical configurations. The All Terrain Mobility Platform (ATMP) was designed to supply air-mobile and rapidly deployable units with ammunition, fuel, and supplies, even in difficult terrain. Thanks to its permanent six-wheel drive (6×6), steered front axles, and high payload capacity, the ATMP could transport loads that were exceptionally heavy for its compact size. Furthermore, the vehicle could be transported in the cargo hold or as an underslung load by a Boeing CH-47 Chinook, making it ideally suited for airborne and commando operations.

The pallet carried on the vehicle typically consisted of P85 ammunition boxes, each containing two L31A3 105mm high-explosive shells for the L118 Light Gun. These robust steel boxes protected the ammunition from moisture, dirt, and damage, and - being palletized - could be rapidly handled by forklifts or cranes. This enabled the quick resupply of forward firing positions with fresh ammunition.

Transporting complete ammunition pallets was one of the ATMP's typical tasks. In addition to supplying gun positions, the vehicle could also tow the L118 Light Gun itself or its ammunition trailer. Specially designed trailers, such as the Self-Loading Lightweight Pallet Trailer (SLLPT), were also available for larger resupply loads, significantly increasing transport capacity. This enabled a single vehicle combination to deliver sufficient ammunition for extended fire missions to forward artillery positions.

The ATMP proved its worth during numerous British Army deployments, including the Gulf War, operations in the Balkans, and the conflict in Afghanistan. Its high mobility and ability to transport ammunition pallets directly to the firing position offered a significant logistical advantage, particularly in rugged terrain. The combination of low curb weight, air-transportability, and high payload capacity made the ATMP an indispensable supply vehicle for air-mobile artillery units.

For scale modelers, the Supacat ATMP - equipped with a pallet of L31A3 ammunition crates - offers a unique yet realistic subject. The distinctive green P85 steel crates, stacked on a wooden pallet and secured with straps, lend the vehicle an authentic logistical look. When combined with an L118 Light Gun, an SLLPT trailer, or a CH-47 Chinook, it creates a compelling diorama that impressively illustrates the often-underestimated yet crucial contribution of supply units to modern artillery operations.
