The Leopard 2 A6 is a German main battle tank that has been in service with the Bundeswehr since 2001. It was developed by Krauss-Maffei Wegmann based on earlier Leopard 2 versions. Its key improvement over the A5 model is the longer L/55 120mm smoothbore gun, which provides increased firepower. It is also equipped with two 7.62mm machine guns.
The crew consists of four personnel: commander, gunner, loader, and driver. A 1,500 hp diesel engine propels the approximately 60-ton tank at speeds of around 70 km/h on roads. With the gun facing forward, it measures approximately 11.3 meters in length, 3.75 meters in width, and 3 meters in height. Composite armor, distinctive wedge-shaped add-on turret armor, and a stabilized fire-control system with thermal imaging combine protection with precise target engagement.
