The IS-2 Model 1944 was a Soviet heavy tank, production of which began in late 1943. It was developed as a countermeasure against German Tiger I tanks. It featured a powerful 122 mm gun and improved, thick cast armor. Of particular note was the modified, reinforced, sloped frontal armor without a driver's hatch, which was fitted from August 1944 onwards. The tank was crucial for breakthroughs and saw extensive use in the major offensives of 1944 and 1945.
