U.S. Battleship BB-63 Missouri (Circa 1991)

The Iowa class was the last and largest of four US battleship classes to enter service during World War II.
The third vessel of this class was the USS Missouri, which was commissioned in June 1944.
She was deployed in the Pacific and took part in the battles for Okinawa, Iwo Jima and the main Japanese islands.
The signing ceremony of the Japanese surrender documents took place on the deck of the Missouri on 3 September 1945.
After the end of the Korean War, the vessel was mothballed at the Reserve Fleet anchorage.
In 1986, however, she was refitted with various modern weapons such as Tomahawk and Harpoon missiles as well as Vulcan and Phalanx weapons to be recommissioned with the US Navy.
Along with her sister ship, the Wisconsin, the Missouri was deployed in the 1991 Gulf War and fired some 28 Tomahawk cruise missiles on the first day of the conflict.
In total, she fired more than 750 16inch shells in support of land forces.
She was decommissioned in March 1992 after some 50 years of service and now lies in Pearl Harbor as a museum ship.
