North American F-51D Mustang "Korean War"

Einloggen und Bewertung schreiben
Considered by many to be the best fighter of the Second World War, the Mustang also saw service in the Korean War.
The Mustang was redesignated from P-51D to F-51D as part of the formation of the US Air Force and was gradually phased out of service as more jet aircraft took over its role.
However, this changed with the outbreak of hostilities on the Korean Peninsula in 1950.
United Nations forces were hard pressed in the early stages of the war, and USAF P-80s were unable to land in areas where there were often no suitable runways.
The F-51D stepped in and performed admirably as a ground combat aircraft when the United Nations forces were pushed back.
