The Universal Carrier Wasp Mk.IIC was a flamethrower version of the British Universal Carrier used by Allied forces during World War II. The 3rd Carpathian Infantry Division, part of the II Polish Corps, saw significant use of this vehicle during the Italian Campaign, particularly in attacks on fortified positions.

The Wasp Mk.IIC was based on the proven Universal Carrier, a light tracked vehicle used for transport, reconnaissance, and support roles. The Wasp version was equipped with a flamethrower, the fuel for which was carried in armored containers inside the vehicle. Compared to earlier variants, the Mk.IIC featured an improved fuel tank arrangement and enhanced operational reliability.

The crew typically consisted of two to three soldiers. The vehicle was lightly armored, offering protection against small arms fire and shrapnel. However, its greatest strength lay in its mobility. Thanks to its tracked chassis, it could move relatively well even in difficult terrain, such as the mountains and hills of Italy, and directly support infantry units.

During the fighting in Italy—including the operations following the Battle of Monte Cassino—Wasp flamethrower vehicles were used to attack bunkers, machine gun nests, field fortifications, and heavily defended houses. The flamethrower's effect was not only physical but also psychologically significant, as it often forced enemy defenders to abandon their positions.

The 3rd Carpathian Infantry Division was one of the most well-known units of the II Polish Corps and fought its way from central to northern Italy. Its vehicles frequently bore Polish insignia, corps tactical markings, and the typical Allied markings of the Italian theater of operations.

For modelers, a Universal Carrier Wasp Mk.IIC of the Polish 3rd Carpathian Infantry Division in Italy offers a particularly interesting subject. The combination of British vehicle technology, Polish markings and the dusty, mountainous operating conditions of Italy allows for a varied representation with realistic signs of wear, equipment and individual field equipment of the crew.
