McDonnell Douglas F-4E / 2020 Terminator (TAF)

The F-4 was originally conceived in 1956 as a carrier-based supersonic fighter.
It entered service in 1961.
Using experience gained from real combat, the F-4E Phantom II was modified and equipped with an M61 Vulcan cannon under the nose. Significant improvements were made to the wings, including the addition of leading-edge slats and flaps. This not only enhanced its air combat performance but also strengthened its ground attack capabilities.
A quintessential second-generation fighter jet, the F-4E dominated the skies of that era, from the jungles of Vietnam to the deserts of the Middle East. During the Cold War, it became an icon of NATO air forces.
During its more than half-century of service, the F-4E Phantom II set a remarkable record as the first modern multirole combat aircraft.
In 1995, Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) carried out an upgrade similar to the Kurnass 2000 and 54 Turkish F-4Es, which was designated the F-4E 2020 Terminator.
These are expected to remain in service until 2030.
