The M688 loader-transporter was the armored transport and reloading vehicle for the US MGM-52 Lance missile system. Its primary mission was to carry additional Lance missiles across rough terrain and to reload the M752 launcher using its onboard crane. The US Army officially designated the M688 as the loader-transporter for the Lance system.

The most distinctive feature of the M688 was its pivoting hydraulic loading crane. This allowed the crew to pick up a Lance missile, place it on the vehicle, or transfer it from the M688 to the M752. The vehicle carried two Lance missiles; specialized mounts and securing straps held the missiles in place during transport.
