The units of the Japan Ground Self-Defence Force have been receiving the eight-wheeled Maneuver Combat Vehicle Type 16 since 2017.
It is to be a central component of the Rapid Deployment Regiments called for under Japan's mobile defence policy.
With a top speed of 100km/h thanks to a 570hp engine, the vehicle is capable of being deployable on both road and air transport.
The distinctly modern turret is equipped with spaced armour and a domestically developed 105mm L/52 gun, which works in conjunction with an advanced fire control system.
Unlike the previous version of this model, this version includes parts that the C5 variant. 
The C5 variant has a winch, air conditioning at the rear of the turret, a pipe cleaning equipment box and protection for the turret antennas.
