The heavy cruiser Takao was the lead ship of the Takao class of the Imperial Japanese Navy and was among the most powerful heavy cruisers of World War II. Commissioned in 1932, the ship was equipped with ten 20.3 cm guns, powerful torpedoes, and a high speed of over 35 knots. A distinctive feature was the large bridge superstructure, which gave the class a striking appearance. During the Pacific War, the Takao participated in numerous operations and naval battles, including the fighting around Guadalcanal and in the Philippines. In 1944, she was severely damaged by American submarines and subsequently laid up in Singapore. After the war, the ship was taken over by the British and scuttled in 1946.

*The 1/700 Takao model is only available in the Deluxe Edition; there is no standard edition.
