This model kit recreates the legendary BMW 320i Racing. It is an updated reissue of a model originally released in 1977 as a motorized version. This revised edition includes Cartograf decals, metal transfers, and updated assembly instructions.

In 1976, BMW competed in the World Championship for Makes with the 3.0 CSL. Although Porsche secured the titles in both Division 3 (for vehicles with an engine displacement exceeding 3,000 cc) and Division 2 (for vehicles between 2,000 and 3,000 cc), BMW remained undeterred. In 1977, the company returned with the 320i Racing to make another attempt. The vehicle was based on the two-door 320i sedan—introduced in 1975—and was upgraded with a 298 hp, 2.0-liter, 16-valve, inline four-cylinder engine. The aerodynamics of the bodywork were tested and refined—reportedly at Pininfarina in Italy—and the vehicle was also fitted with a distinctive front spoiler and a rear wing. The 320i Racing made its debut at the 1977 season opener, the 24 Hours of Daytona. This marked the continuation of an intense duel in the 2-liter class against the Porsche 935.
