The North American B-25J Mitchell Strafer was a heavily armed attack variant of the successful American B-25 medium bomber. This version was developed based on experiences from the Pacific War, where low-level attacks against ships, airfields, and ground targets proved particularly effective. Instead of the glazed bombardier's nose, the Strafer featured an enclosed nose section with several fixed machine guns.

Powered by two Wright R-2600 Cyclone radial engines, each producing approximately 1,700 hp, the B-25J reached a top speed of about 570 km/h (300 mph). The crew consisted of five men. Depending on the variant, the aircraft was armed with up to 14 forward-firing 12.7 mm (4.7 in) machine guns and could also carry bombs or rockets.

Thanks to its enormous firepower, robustness, and versatility, the B-25J Strafer became one of the most successful Allied attack aircraft of World War II. It proved particularly effective in low-level attacks on ships and ground targets in the Pacific Theater and enjoyed an excellent reputation among its crews.
