The F-4 Phantom II is an American two-seat, twin-engine, all-weather, long-range supersonic interceptor and fighter-bomber originally developed by McDonnell Aircraft for the United States Navy.
It entered service in 1961, and the F-4B variant was the first Phantom to see active combat.
Powered by twin jet engines, it could carry a significant weapons load and was used extensively by the Air Force, Navy, and Marine Corps during the Vietnam War and throughout the 1970s and 1980s.
