The Knox-class frigates were the largest, last, and most-built second-generation anti-submarine warfare vessels in the US Navy.
These ships were retired from the US Navy at the end of the Cold War.
Some continue to serve in foreign nations such as Egypt, Taiwan, Thailand and Mexico.
During the 1990s, the US delivered eight Knox-class frigates to the Republic of China Navy (ROCN). These frigates were redesignated the Chi Yang class and assigned to the ROCN 168 Patrol Squadron.
