The FV 103 Spartan TES(H) was a compact British armored personnel carrier from the CVR(T) family, deployed during Operation Herrick in Afghanistan. For service in Afghanistan, the vehicles received extensive Theatre Entry Standard (TES) upgrades, including additional ballistic protection, protective slat armor, electronic countermeasures against radio-triggered IEDs, and modernized roof equipment. A particularly distinctive feature was the Odin turret, which replaced the original machine gun mount and allowed a 12.7 mm machine gun to be operated from a better-protected position. The Spartan retained its characteristic high mobility and compact design. Thus, the FV 103 Spartan TES(H) with Odin turret represented a version of the British CVR(T) vehicle—in service since the late 1970s—that had been adapted for deployment in Afghanistan.
