The Ansaldo SVA was an Italian reconnaissance biplane of the First World War and the following decade. Originally conceived as a fighter, the SVA proved unsuitable for this role. Its impressive speed, range, and service ceiling—with a top speed that made it one of the fastest Allied combat aircraft of the war—gave it ideal qualities for use as an excellent reconnaissance aircraft and even as a light bomber.
Production of the aircraft continued after the war; the last examples were delivered in 1918.
