The T-34 Model 1941 was one of the early production variants of the famous Soviet medium tank. It was armed with a 76.2 mm gun and combined powerful firepower, good mobility, and effective sloped armor. These qualities made it one of the most influential tanks of World War II. While the addition of a mine-rolling vehicle reduced its speed and maneuverability, it allowed the vehicle to directly breach minefields during an attack.
Early mine-rolling vehicles were tested and deployed during the war, with various designs being developed. Although the most well-known Soviet systems only appeared in larger numbers from 1942 and 1943 onward, early T-34s also served as carrier vehicles for such trials and deployments. The crews of these vehicles undertook a particularly dangerous task, as they had to clear minefields under enemy fire to allow the advancing forces to proceed.
The T-34 with a mine-rolling vehicle was therefore not a separate tank type, but rather a specialized variant of the standard tank. He highlights the versatility of the T-34 chassis and the importance of special technical solutions for Soviet offensive operations in World War II.
