German Fuel / Water Tank Set

The so-called Einheitskanister with a capacity of 20 liters were developed in the 1930s for the German Wehrmacht.
The first were delivered in 1937.
The initial design was identified by a simple X to reinforce the sheet metal.
An improved version with a different sheet metal profile was produced from 1939.
From 1940 water canisters were also produced.
Due to the identical shape, fuel 20L or water 20L was embossed on the side wall to distinguish between them.
There was also information such as manufacturer, owner (e.g. Wehrmacht), year of manufacture and, in the case of the fuel canister, the note Feuergefährlich
