Centurion Mk. 5/1 RAAC - Vietnam

2

The MK. V was the third production variant of the Centurion to enter service with the British Army.
The Besa machine gun as a coaxial weapon was replaced by a Browning 30 Cal. machine gun replaced.
The rear hatch of the turret fell away without replacement. The turret roof was redesigned and the 2-inch bomb launcher was no longer installed.
An additional stowage bin was placed on the glacis panel.
In this configuration, the Centurion formed the backbone of British armored forces for many years.
In addition, the tanks were continuously adapted to the threat by increasing combat performance.
In 1967 the Australian government decided to send a squadron of Australian Centurions to South Vietnam.
Armed with the 20pdr, C Squadron tanks of the 1st Armored Regiment landed in South Vietnam on 24 February 1968 and were stationed at Nui Dat.
