The F-4 Phantom II is an American two-seat, twin-engine, all-weather, long-range supersonic interceptor and fighter-bomber originally developed by McDonnell Aircraft for the United States Navy.
Originally developed for the United States Navy, the F-4J Phantom eventually also equipped Marine Corps squadrons and was used for close air support of ground troops in the Vietnam War.
