The Leopard 1 A5 main battle tank was developed from the Leopard 1 A1A1 by West Germany in the 1980s to keep up with the latest Soviet tanks.
It is the last mass-produced, advanced version of the Leopard 1 family.
The Leopard 1 A5 main battle tank is equipped with a modern fire control system, so that it can use seven different types of ammunition and its maximum firing range is up to 4000 meters.
The modernization also includes the introduction of APFSDS ammunition and the modification of the hydraulic system of the chassis and the NBC protection system. In 1 987 the Leopard 1 A5 was put into service with the German army.
