Battleship Yamato

The Yamato and her sister ship Musashi were the heaviest and most heavily armed battleships ever built.
They displaced almost 72000 tons at full load and were armed with nine 46cm main guns.
In a desperate attempt to slow the Allied advance in the Pacific, the Yamato was sent on a mission to Okinawa in April 1945, with orders to fight to self-destruction in order to protect the island.
The task force was spotted south of Kyushu by US submarines and aircraft and sunk by American carrier bombers and torpedo bombers on 7 April 1945, with most of her crew losing their lives.
