This kit impresses with its numerous details and ease of assembly.
The Tomcat was in service from the early 1970s until 2006.
Initially used for fleet defense, its role was expanded in the 1990s to include offensive missions due to its enormous range.
Later in the same decade, the addition of the LANTIRN targeting pod enabled long-range bombing with laser-guided munitions. The F-14D was the last variant to adopt the General Electric F110-GE-400 engines of its predecessor, the F-14B, and received significantly improved avionics. It entered service in 1992 and saw action over Iraq and Afghanistan.
The F-14D was finally retired from service with the US Navy in 2006.
