U.S. Aircraft Carrier CV-3 Saratoga

Einloggen und Bewertung schreiben
The CV-3 Saratoga was launched in April 1925 as the second vessel of the US Navy's Lexington aircraft carrier class and was commissioned in November 1927.
She was affectionately nicknamed "Sister Sara" and was originally planned as a battle cruiser, but was finished into an aircraft carrier.
As a result, she had a slimmer hull than other aircraft carriers and featured an enclosed bow, which was unusual for the time but improved protection from higher swells.
The large funnel on the starboard side was almost in the centre of the vessel and featured the bridge with 5-inch guns immediately in front.
Sister Sara was the longest serving aircraft carrier in the Pacific and survived World War II despite some terrible attacks and damage.
Her final contribution to the US cause came in 1946, when she was used as a target in nuclear testing along with the Japanese vessel Nagato and others and sunk.
