The British Army produced over 13,000 vehicles of the 2-ton 4x2 field ambulance from 1940 until the end of World War II. It was a powerful vehicle for relief operations. The vehicle body is based on a civilian light truck, and the Army Medical Corps independently developed the rear compartment. It contained numerous medical equipment, including benches that could be converted into bunk beds. The area of operations was wide and included France, North Africa, Italy and post-Normandy Europe. The vehicle was seen in use not only by the Army, but also at air bases across the country.
