Quick-drying Zimmerit acrylic paste for WWII German AFVs.
  • 20 ml tube.
The Zimmerit coating, developed by the German chemical company Chemische Werke Zimmer & Co., was applied to German armored vehicles in mid-late WWII, specifically from August 1943 until September 1944. This coating had the function of protecting armored vehicles from infantry HEAT magnetic mines being placed on their surfaces. The idea was to apply a coat of Zimmerit paste on the armor to create a rough, non-magnetic surface that reduced the chances of mines sticking to the vehicle. The coating was imprinted with textured patterns, often wavy or grid-shaped, using special tools. These patterns were not only highly distinctive, but also increased the effectiveness of the Zimmerit by reducing the contact area of the magnets with the surface of the vehicle.

AMMO presents the first quick-drying acrylic paste to represent Zimmerit coatings on your models. Apply the Zimmerit paste to the model using a spatula, then use one of the Zimmerit tools included in the set A.MIG-8583 Zimmerit Applicator to reproduce the authentic patterns easily and realistically. This paste has the same color as the original paste, providing an extremely authentic finish to your models.

For those looking to deepen their understanding of Zimmerit, AMMO’s book ZIMMERIT: The Ultimate Modeling Guide (English) A.MIG-6311 offers a wealth of historical context, application methods, and painting and weathering techniques. With several step-by-step modeling chapters, it serves as a valuable reference for achieving realistic Zimmerit finishes.

Features:
  • High-quality acrylic formula in a convenient 20 ml tube.
  • Non-toxic and allows for easy cleanup with water.
  • Ready-to-use, quick-drying, and easy to apply.
  • Can be applied with brushes and spatulas, and textured with special tools such as A.MIG-8583 ZIMMERIT APLICATOR.
  • Replicates the texture of real Zimmerit at scale, making it suitable for 1/35, 1/48, 1/16, and even 1/72 models.
  • Realistic color matches original Zimmerit, allowing for authentic chipping effects or factory-state finishes before final paint application.
  • Longer working time than other putties, allowing texture engraving at a comfortable pace. We recommend applying the Zimmerit in sections to ensure precision and control.
  • Remains workable for at least 20 minutes, firms within one hour for chipping and attachment, and fully cures in 24 hours, ensuring the model is ready for painting.
  • Durable yet easy to chip once dry, allowing realistic chipping with a curved blade for an authentic wear pattern. Its adhesiveness is specifically designed to support this effect.
  • Hardness is calibrated for easy sanding and cutting, making it simple to remove excess material from unwanted areas.
  • Can be painted and varnished once dry for a seamless finish.
How to use:
  • 1. Clean and prepare the surface of the model
  • 2. Apply a thin coat with a spatula or other appropriate tool
  • 3. Mark the desired pattern with A.MIG-8583 ZIMMERIT APLICATOR).
  • 4. Allow the Zimmerit to dry completely before painting or varnishing.
LIST OF GERMAN VEHICLES THAT USED ZIMMERIT:

Tanks:
  • Pz.Kpfw. III. (Panzer III).  When Zimmerit was introduced, production of these vehicles had already stopped, but it was applied on examples returned to the factory to be updated and transformed (for example in Ausf. N or in Pz.Beob.Wg.).
  • Pz.Kpfw. IV (Panzer IV). Intermediate production models.
  • Pz.Kpfw. Panther. Initial and intermediate production models. Very few Panthers Ausf. D received Zimmerit at the factory, most examples with it were applied in the field. The early manufactured Panthers Ausf. A, although the manufacturer had Zimmerit, did not receive it. In September 1944, some Panthers Ausf. G left the factories with the Zimmerit on the turret but not on the hull.
  • Pz.Kpfw. Tiger Ausf. E (Tiger I). Intermediate and late production models.
  • Pz.Kpfw. Tiger Ausf. B (Tiger II). Initial production models.
Self-propelled guns and tank destroyers:
  • Sturmgeschütz III (StuG III). Final production models.
  • Sturmgeschütz IV (StuG IV).  Initial production models.
  • Jagdpanzer IV. Initial production models.
  • Ferdinand (Elephant).
