Bell X-1 A / D "Second Generation"

1
The Bell X-1 was a rocket-powered aircraft built by Bell Aircraft as a joint research project of the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics, the US Army Air Forces and the US Air Force for supersonic aircraft. It was designed from 1944 and built in 1945, reaching speeds of nearly 1,000 miles per hour (1,600 km/h) in 1948.
A successor model d, the Bell X-1A, with greater fuel capacity and therefore longer rocket burn time, reached a speed of more than 1,600 miles per hour (2600 km/h) in 1954.
A new low-pressure propellant system with a slightly increased propellant capacity was fitted to the X-1D.
Some minor changes were also made to the avionics
