Heinkel He 178 V-2

When the Heinkel He 178 first took to the skies on August 24, 1939, with pilot E. Warsitz at the controls, and embarked on its maiden flight three days later, these flights went down in aviation history as the very first flights of a jet aircraft. Following ongoing testing, the aircraft was presented to high-ranking officers of the Reich Air Ministry (RLM) on November 1. Later, the aircraft received a more powerful HeS 6 engine, a larger wing, and retractable landing gear. This variant is referred to in some sources as the He 178 V-2.
