Pfalz E. I 1/48

Einloggen und Bewertung schreiben
Pfalz Flugzeugwerke GmbH was founded in 1913 in Speyer in the then Kingdom of Bavaria by Alfred Eversbusch, his brother Ernst and some other investors.
The first types produced by the new company were Otto biplanes built under licence.
But before the First World War, the production rights for Morane-Saulnier monoplanes were acquired, namely for the two-seater parasol monoplane Type L and the single-seater medium monoplane Type H. The latter was named the Pfalz E.E. monoplane.
The latter was built as the Pfalz E.I. and equipped with an 80 hp Oberursel U0 engine.
These aircraft were primarily delivered to Bavarian units.
Initially unarmed and used as fast reconnaissance aircraft, they later became, after being equipped with synchronised machine gun armament, together with the Fokker E.I, the first real fighter aircraft of the German air force.
The armament of an LMG 08/15 machine gun was mounted on the right side of the forward fuselage and the aircraft were used to escort and protect reconnaissance aircraft on both the Eastern and Western Fronts, and a smaller number also saw action in Palestine.
The largest number of Pfalz fighters were used in April 1916, later their numbers decreased and the Pfalz E.I was replaced either by a more modern E.I type or by the much more successful Fokker E.II and E.III fighters.
