The 4 Series Coupé is based on the 3 Series compact sedan.
This car, designed exclusively for competition and announced by BMW in 2021, is based on the 4 Series Coupé. The B58B30 engine is BMW's traditional inline six-cylinder unit with a displacement of 2,993 cc and a maximum output of 590 hp.
The body has been aerodynamically modified, including large air intakes on the hood in accordance with GT3 regulations. A swan-neck wing is mounted at the rear. As the name suggests, the M4 GT3 was developed to dominate GT3 racing in Europe and the USA. Deliveries to racing teams worldwide began in 2022, and the car also competes in the GT300 class of the Japanese Super GT series. One of the most successful racing series is the DTM (Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters), the German Touring Car Championship, which was established in 1984.
It is known for its fierce competition between domestic manufacturers such as BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, and Opel, as well as occasional foreign teams like Alfa Romeo. It also enjoys great popularity in Japan as a touring car racing series. The DTM has undergone several rule changes and periods of inactivity, but since the 2021 season, after running under the Class 1 regulations until 2020, it has used GT3 category cars. BMW, a long-time DTM participant, replaced its predecessor, the BMW M6 GT3 DTM, with four M4 GT3s for the 2022 season. The driver lineup consisted of the No. 10 car, driven by Esteban Muth, the No. 11 car, driven by Marco Wittmann (Walkenhorst Motorsport), the No. 25 car, driven by Philipp Eng, and the No. 31 car, driven by Sheldon van der Linde (Schubert Motorsport). Sheldon van der Linde delivered a particularly strong performance throughout the entire season. He won both the first and second races of the second round at the Lausitzring and also secured victory in the first race of the fifth round at the Nürburgring. He consistently achieved good results in the remaining races, diligently collecting points and ultimately becoming the season champion. At the same time, Schubert Motorsport finished first in the team standings, underlining the high potential of the BMW M4 GT3.
